Andy Emsley is the pioneer of A & M Emsley Consultancy Limited. On the back of 35+ years of Senior Management / Director Level and Ownership of 2 successful lift companies.
I studied as an Architect from leaving school where a commercial opportunity resulted in a change of direction. Remaining within the “Construction Industry” knowledge resulted in the starting of a Mechanical & Electrical business towards the late 80’s.
“Independent Lifts Limited” was established by three colleagues and I towards the end of the 80’s. A self-financed profitable company that generated a turnover in excess of £10 million pounds over a 20-year period employing on average 80 people throughout Yorkshire, the Northeast and the Northwest of England. The company specialised in new installations, refurbishments, and routine maintenance.
The business relied on developing relationships with employees, clients, clients’ agents and suppliers both nationally & internationally (Spain, France & Italy) where the majority of equipment manufacturers in this sector are based. Establishing and managing these relationships with significant stakeholders nationally within all areas of the lift Industry was important but was not limited to employees, clients, principle & subcontractors, industry suppliers, architects, consultants, surveyors, facility management companies, stadia, education, NHS, the hospitality industry, the retail industry & the living accommodation Industry.
The 100% share capital of Independent Lifts Limited was sold to our Spanish manufacturer January 2008.
In September 2010 myself and two of my previous business partners bought the 100% controlling interest in another construction related business “Classic Lifts Limited”. Structuring through a holding company other companies within different commercial sectors were also purchased. For example, an IT Solutions business based in the Midlands.
As a result of significant increased commercial knowledge and a wealth of industry contacts. this business developed over a 10-year period from an unprofitable £1.5 million company to a profitable £40+ million organisation. The business model resulted in employing an average of 250 people with branches nationally in London, Bristol, Glasgow, Manchester, Leicester, Rotherham & Newcastle upon Tyne.
Significant supplier knowledge has become a bi product of many years within the industry. Knowing how much parts cost, how long they take to precure and fit, where to source a specific part. A database of over 600 lift companies & supplier contacts demonstrates the versatility & knowledge of the industry we can call upon.
A & M Emsley Consultancy Limited has the knowledge, the expertise, the contacts, the commercial acumen to manage individual vertical transportation requirements or be it a portfolio of lifts & lifting equipment.
As with all electrical & mechanical equipment malfunction will happen from time to time. Be it wear & tear, poor maintenance, miss use & abuse, or legislation.
