Hallam got their home league campaign off to the perfect start with a 4-0 win over Winterton Rangers.

Four first half goals saw the contest beyond doubt by the interval, whilst a dominant second half didn’t result in any further reward.

It took just 11 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, with Rio Allan getting on the end of an inch-perfect Leo Howarth cross to head home and finish off a nicely worked move.

Brandon Bradbury went close shortly after when his effort from outside the area went wide.

But Bradbury wouldn’t have to wait long to get a second chance – this time squeezing it into the net despite goalkeeper Ryan Musselwhite’s best efforts to double the lead just after the half hour mark.

And Rio Allan added his second of the game not long after with a composed finish underneath the Winterton ‘keeper to make it 3-0.

The Countrymen continued to control the game, and came close to adding another when Rio Allan was denied a first half hat-trick after he grazed the outside of the post from close range.

Hallam added a fourth right on the stroke of half time, when Leo Howarth’s shot was emphatically turned in by a perfectly placed Chris Salt to round off a near-perfect first half.

The second half brought little change in the direction of play with Hallam continuing to push forward, with Leo Howarth firing narrowly over on the half-volley from range.

Howarth then had another chance to extend the lead further shortly after when he hit the foot of the post from the angle after rounding Musselwhite.

Substitute Iren Wilson almost opened his account for the season when he rolled the ball the wrong side of the post after a mazy run.

But there were to be no more goals in the second half, in what was an emphatic first home league victory of the season for the Countrymen.

The result means that Hallam’s unbeaten start to the campaign goes on ahead of Saturday’s trip to Handsworth.
