Hallam FC head to Teesside this weekend to face Redcar Athletic in the Northern Premier League Division One East. It will be the first league meeting between the two clubs at Green Lane.
The Countrymen go into the match after a 2–1 defeat away at Ashington in midweek, which came off the back of a 1–1 draw at home to Blyth Spartans. Hallam’s record now stands at one win, four draws and two defeats from their opening seven fixtures, and they sit 16th in the table with seven points, scoring ten goals and conceding eleven.
Brodie Litchfield is Hallam’s leading scorer with five goals from eight matches. Leon Howarth has added two, both from the penalty spot, and Benni Ndlovu has been involved in goals as well. Charlie Staniland, Jack Brownell, Hugo Warhurst and Danny South, have all played in every league game so far, however after receiving a straight red at the Ashington game, the latter is now suspended.
Redcar Athletic are enjoying one of the strongest starts in the division. They are 5th in the table with 12 points from six matches, winning four and losing two. They have scored 24 goals and conceded nine, boasting the highest goal tally in the league at this stage.
The club was founded in 1993 as Teesside Athletic and became Redcar Athletic in 2010. They play at Green Lane, a ground with room for around 1,000 supporters. In recent years they have worked their way up through the Wearside and Northern Leagues to reach their current level.
Carl Jarrett has been manager for a year and has overseen their attacking approach. Their standout result so far this season was a 10–1 win over Silsden, showing the firepower they have going forward. Forwards including Louis Johnson and Bradley Fewster have been among the names on the scoresheet in recent weeks, and their squad has goals across different positions.
For Hallam fans, the trip to Redcar is one of the longer away days of the season. Green Lane usually attracts a good home following and with both clubs looking to put points on the board, it should be a lively afternoon. Hallam will want to end their short run without a win, while Redcar will look to keep up their push near the top of the table.
Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday.
