Hallam FC continue playing knockout football this weekend as they travel to take on Consett in the FA Trophy First Qualifying Round; this being just their second ever game in the competition.
The FA Trophy is a national knockout competition open to clubs at Steps 1–4 of the National League System (tiers 5–8). It offers non-league sides like Hallam the opportunity to compete nationally and advance through multiple rounds toward the later stages. Both Hallam and Consett begin their FA Trophy campaigns at this stage, making this match their opening fixture in the tournament.
For Hallam, this fixture arrives shortly after their exit from the FA Cup First Qualifying Round Replay, in which they were eliminated 2–0 by Ashton United on Wednesday, 3rd September. Prior to that, they had performed strongly in the earlier stages, seeing off Lower Breck and City of Liverpool. In league action, Hallam picked up their first win of the season with a 3–1 victory over Blyth Town at Sandygate, with goals from Brodie Litchfield, Leon Howarth and Danny South.
Consett, meanwhile, come into this clash having already scored 12 goals in league play, one of the highest tallies in the division, although they have also conceded 9, giving them a mixed defensive record. In the FA Trophy, they earned their place here with a 1–1 draw against Bishop Auckland in the preliminary round before advancing on penalties.
There is little recent competitive history between the two clubs, making this a fresh and exciting contest. The sides are also due to meet in the league on 12th October, which will provide another chance to measure themselves against one another.
Hallam currently sit mid-table: unbeaten after four matches, with one win and three draws. They have been consistent and shown attacking promise, scoring 15 in eight.
Consett sit just outside the early leaders and are prolific in attack but less secure defensively. Their ability to outscore opponents has made them one of the more entertaining sides to watch this season.
Consett are currently managed by Jason Miller, who took charge in September 2024. Under his leadership, they have developed a positive, attacking approach.
Up front, Matty Todd and Isaac Walker have been the club’s leading scorers so far, with two goals apiece, and will be key threats that Hallam’s backline must look out for. Their pace and finishing ability make them crucial figures in Consett’s offensive play.
This game is a 3pm kick-off on Saturday at Belle Vue Park, Consett’s home since 2013. With a capacity of just over 3,000, the stadium is well-regarded as both a community hub and a strong football venue in County Durham.
Unlike in the FA Cup, the result will be decided on the day in the form of a penalty shootout if the scores are level after 90. Should the Countrymen progress, the Second Qualifying Round is currently scheduled for Saturday 20th September.
