"The future of the UK steel industry is uncertain.
But research from Unite shows that, with investment and commitment from the Government and our local politicians, UK steel could have a bright future as a European leader in green steel production.
Our Workers’ Plan for Steel would increase output and create more jobs, ending decades of managed decline:
- Change procurement rules so UK public contracts use 100% UK steel
- Public investment for a transition to green steel production, with a guarantee that investment comes with no job losses
Unite has launched a major national campaign in Sheffield and other steel towns to put this plan into action.
Today we are handing in a joint letter signed by over 150 Sheffield businesses and community organisations, calling for urgent action from our politicians to save our vital steel industry."
