Hallam’s unbeaten start to the season continued with a comfortable 3-0 win over Parkgate.

Leon Howarth’s goal got the ball rolling in the first half, whilst a second half strike from Brandon Bradbury and a goal in an entertaining cameo from Chris Salt made sure of the three points.

The game started off a slow burner, with Danny South’s effort blocked by the goalkeeper the sole chance in the opening exchanges.

Parkgate rarely threatened throughout, and were fortunate not to go behind when Alex Peterson’s effort from range rattled the crossbar.

But the Countrymen did eventually find the opening goal, when good footwork from Rio Allan led to the ball falling at the feet of Leon Howarth, who couldn’t miss into an empty net.

And the home side had a chance to extend the lead just before half time when Ross Goodwin couldn’t convert on the stretch after Danny South’s low cross.

Goodwin then had the ball in the net shortly after half time, only for the linesman’s flag to cut his celebrations short.

The Countrymen doubled the lead on the 75 minute mark, with Brandon Bradbury driving from midfield before firing a powerful shot that goalkeeper Lewis Fox got fingertips to, but was unable to keep out.

And the game was put beyond any doubt when substitute Calum Ward reacted fastest from a corner to hook the ball over his head and into the net.

Ward was then sin-binned late in the game following a moment of confusion.

The 3-0 win means that Hallam remain top of the NCEL Premier ahead of the return to FA Cup action on Sunday.
