Brandon Bradbury’s early goal from the edge of the box took the Countrymen into the lead, but another finish from distance from Joseph Batty gave the sides a point each.
There were three changes from the 0-0 draw at Brighouse last time out, with Mason Warren, Jack Brownell and Jay Glover replacing Stephen Brogan, Janni Lipka and Brodie Litchfield.
After a spell of good opportunities down the left side, Hallam finally got their breakthrough after 17 minutes. Good play from Glover and Paulo Aguas led to the latter putting in a weak-footed cross into the box, which was cleared but only as far as Bradbury; the midfielder set himself up and rifled it into the bottom left corner.
And just a couple minutes later, Bradbury found space on the right wing and put in a dangerous driven-cross, which evaded all, including the defenders.
Glover was involved in the opposition box once again a quarter of an hour in, getting in behind and having his initial shot saved, but the follow-up was hit wide.
On 36 minutes, there was great play in and around the box which nearly led to a second for the home side. Ball went from right to left in a controlled manner, with Brownell whipping a ball to the back post, which Bradbury gave the finest of touches to put it in the centre. On the half-turn, Kiyani Clayton forced a goal-line clearance from the Seasiders.
Just before half-time, Danny South had a brilliant chance from the edge of the box, with the ball curling just wide of the far post. Hallam went into the break a goal to the good, after a very dominant half.
The game was flipped on its head in the second half, with the ball being predominantly played in the Countrymen’s half. And Bridlington got their equaliser following heaps of pressure on the Hallam backline thanks to a great effort from range by Batty.
And the away side thought they should have been given a penalty soon after when they felt their forward was adjudged to have been grabbed down, but the referee wasn’t moved.
Hugo Warhurst made a fantastic save with 15 minutes to go, with the striker inches from goal and shooting high into the goal – great reflexes from the goalkeeper kept the scores level. From the resulting corner, an edge of the box strike whistled just wide of the post.
With two minutes to go of regular time, Hallam had a great chance to grab a winner when Leon Howarth put in an inviting cross to Adam Blakeley at the back post; instead, there was a clash of heads, with Blakeley requiring lengthy treatment and being replaced in added time.
And in the 100th minute, Bridlington were given a free kick inside the ‘D’ on the edge of the box, but the seven-man-wall was able to block it, and out for a corner. The resulting corner was dealt with, and the game finished with both sides taking a point.
Hallam are next in action on Tuesday night (17/3), as they take on Newton Aycliffe at home.
