The drama at Sandygate began a little more than an hour before kick off time, when a late pitch inspection by the match referee had both sets of players watching pensively from the side-lines to see if the match would go ahead. Following several days of snow and rain, it was a brave man who would have bet on the outcome of the pitch inspection. Happily, as the first supporters began to make their way into the Oldest Football Ground in the World, the referee decided that the game could go ahead, and so both sets of players scurried towards the changing rooms to prepare for this NCEL Division One encounter.

Hallam FC 6 – 1 Nostell Miners Welfare
On a blustery and wet Saturday afternoon, Hallam welcomed Nostell Miners Welfare to the Oldest Football Ground in the World. The frightful weather was not enough to deter the Sandygate faithful, and an impressive crowd of 404 made their way through the gate.

Hallam FC 3 – 1 Armthorpe Welfare FC
On a bright, chilly November afternoon, an impressive crowd of 656 made their way into the Sandygate ground to see the Countrymen entertain Armthorpe Welfare FC. Before the kick-off, there was an immaculately observed minute’s silence and a poignant rendition of the Last Post from a lone bugler to commemorate Remembrance Sunday. The sombre, reflective mood was soon lifted as the referee blew his whistle and the match got underway. It had been three weeks since Hallam’s last home game, and two weeks since the team had played together competitively, and the crowd were eager to see if the Countrymen could maintain the fine run of results, and impressive style of play, that had propelled them to the top of the NCEL Division One.
Wilson & Watson Provide the Sunshine on a Rainy Day in Shirebrook!
Shirebrook Town FC 0 – 2 Hallam FC
On a rainy Saturday afternoon, the Countrymen travelled across the Derbyshire border to face Shirebrook Town in this NCEL Division One fixture. Any thoughts of the game been postponed due to a water-logged pitch (as will no doubt be mentioned several times during this report, it was raining) were quickly dispelled upon arrival at the Langwith Road ground. The pitch was in fine condition, and the travelling Hallam supporters were hopeful that their team could extend their winning streak and cement their second place in the league.
High Flying Hallam Demolish Robins to Soar Back to Top of NCEL Division One!
Hallam FC 8 (eight) – 1 Selby Town FC
Disappointment at the midweek friendly defeat to SWFC under-23s did not deter the Hallam faithful from making the pilgrimage to Sandygate on a blustery, autumnal Saturday afternoon. An impressive crowd of 527 were there to welcome the Robins of Selby Town, and they did not have to wait long for the scoring to open. Kicking towards the ever-boisterous Shed End, Chris Woods’ cross over the heads of the Selby defence was gratefully collected by Liam Royles and mercilessly dispatched. 1 – 0 to Hallam and only six minutes played.
Hallamites - Away to Clipstone and the Mull of Kintyre
This season has, unusually, seen only a couple of Hallamites away trips, to nearby Worsbrough and a rather clipped visit to Rainworth (where kick off was 2pm, not 3pm....you can guess the rest). So it was good to get back in the groove last weekend with a trip to Nottinghamshire to watch the Countrymen take on the lower mid table Clipstone.

HALLAM FC 0 – 2 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY U-23s
Sheffield Wednesday under-23s arrived at the Oldest Football Ground in the World on, appropriately, a Wednesday evening, to play out a friendly encounter with the Countrymen of Hallam FC. A crowd of 305, including at least two obligatory non-league dogs, welcomed the visitors from Hillsborough to see how Hallam, with a recent spell of excellent results in their league campaign, would fare against the Sheffield Wednesday proteges.

North Ferriby 1 – 0 Hallam FC
North Ferriby FC have a wonderful set up to which they should be proud of. As soon as we arrived, we were directed to the car parking and was greeted by smiley friendly staff.
6 years ago, the club North Ferriby United was a National League team and were the winners of the 2014/15 FA Trophy. In 2018 with debts of 7.5k, they were liquidated. The phoenix club North Ferriby FC was set up in 2019 and granted access to the NCEL Dv1.

A Wednesday night beneath the Sandygate floodlights saw the stage set for what promised to be an intriguing encounter between Hallam FC and Frickley Athletic, a team playing in the Northern Premier League Division One, two leagues above the Countrymen. With the success recently enjoyed by Hallam, how would they fare against mightier opposition? An impressive crowd of 341 flocked to that theatre of dreams known as Sandygate to witness the drama unfold, in this second round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup.

Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Quarter Final
This Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Quarter Final was played out at Sandygate on a cold and damp Tuesday evening in front of a crowd of 364. Both teams have been performing well in the league, and so the stage was set for an intriguing encounter.
Stalemate at Sandygate as Hallam's Winning Streak Ends!
Hallam FC 1 - 1 Glasshoughton Welfare FC
It had to happen sooner or later – Hallam FC's amazing ten game winning streak came to an end against a determined Glasshoughton side in front of an amazing Sandygate crowd of 619. The good news is that Hallam can now boast an eleven game unbeaten streak (silver linings and all that) and are still sitting close to the top of the NCEFL Division One.
The first half was dominated for long periods of time by Hallam, who continued to play with the confidence and panache that their supporters have become accustomed to in recent games. However Glasshoughton proved a tough nut to crack, and defended stalwartly. Even when it looked certain that Hallam would score, the Glasshoughton goalkeeper performed heroics, denying Hallam the goals that seemed inevitable.
