Stephen Whitehead“The squad is coming together nicely –but we may not be finished with additions.”

After a third-placed finish in Toolstation NCEL Division One last season, Hallam Pic: Non-League Yorkshire took time out to update the supporters Website on the progress he’s been making in assembling another competitive squad, writes Colin Muncie for the Hallam FC Website..

“The squad is coming together nicely”, Stephen told us. “Our first –choice keeper, Archie Sneath will be missing for the game at North Ferriby, so we have signed Worksop’s second-choice goalkeeper, James Leverton, on dual registration; thanks to Dents (Worksop Town Manager Craig Denton) for allowing us to do so. Also we have our Under-19’s Oliver Barnes, who has impressed in preseason and is a confident young goalkeeper”.

“Defensively ,we are looking really strong”, Stephen continued “We have added Julian Lawrence and Macole Lannaman ,and we have Tyler Bradley coming back after a short stint away to add to the already strong back line of Jack McCarthy, Richard Tootle, Tom Roebuck and John Brelsford. With the additions of some under 19’s which Mick Kahn has brought along -Tom Staniland, Ben Donoghue and Luis Ferreira. They have really impressed me, and they’ll be pushing –on merit for regular first team football. They’ll fully deserve it if and when they get there”.

The Hallam Manager is delighted with his options in midfield. “ Having skipper James Reed  coming back from a long term injury is like making a new signing and will only strengthen that department” Stephen admitted .” Sam Fewkes has looked top drawer since coming back from a short term stint away. Will Wraith -also coming back from a long time out -has been fantastic in preseason, and. Danny Booth has put some good work in and looked his normal accomplished self. We’ve added Harry Lambard, whose energy and work rate gets the rest of the midfield going at a great pressing pace; and Paddy Carrig gives us some much needed steel in the centre of the midfield. Steven again underlined the importance of Hallam’s younger players “Again, many of the Under-19 have impressed me” he told us; “Cal Spencer will get his chance and has fitted in well with the lads, and young Pete Nicholls has great ability”.

Up front, Stephen is pleased with the firepower at his disposal “We’ve managed to keep hold of Sam Smith, Reece Treasure and Micah Bishop -although they have had a lot of interest over the summer from other clubs -and have all been fantastic” Steven reported. “To add to that we have secured the signature of JT (Jordan Turner) which is a tremendous signing for ourselves and who will score goals in this team.  Kirumbai Mutamba joins us, giving us much- needed width and real quality and again we have a real live wire from the Under-19’s in Jake Thompson”.

Stephen hinted that Hallam’s recruitment may not yet be at an end “We may not be finished with additions, either”, he told us.
